Lighthouse Meaning and Lyrics

Lyrics: It’s late at night

Looking washed out and faded

Straight out of a Parkhurst painting

And I feel alright

But damn you look jaded

Like you’ve been about seven years famous

Crashing waves

I wanna stay

Right here

In the sunrise

Waiting it out

In the lighthouse

Give it thirty years and Ill settle down

And the spirits are climbing on the rocks now

Soon enough new sailors will come around

It’s early in the morning

Sitting in delicate fog

Wrapped up in a sweater I stole while you were gone

And the grudges we been holding we been holding to long

And I can’t tell what’s right and what’s wrong

Crashing waves

I wanna stay

Right here

In the sunrise

Waiting it out

In the lighthouse

Give it thirty years and Ill settle down

And the spirits are climbing on the rocks now

Soon enough new sailors will come around

Looking for the lighthouse

All I can say is watch out

Looking for the lighthouse

All I can say is watch out

For me, Lighthouse was a way to express the insecurity and isolation of being human, specifically of being a teenager. I really wanted the song to push and pull between those feelings of wanting to be left alone and feeling like you need to put yourself out there but not knowing how to do it for fear of making a wrong step. The lighthouse is really meant to symbolize this weird little dance we do where we kinda flash you what’s going on in our lives like we want you to know, but at the same time it’s almost a warning. It’s so easy to not be vulnerable, and I find myself always debating whether or not I should keep it all to myself or put it all out there. Lighthouse is  me putting it all out there while simultaneously versing isolation, angst, and my insecurities. Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, and thank you for letting me be vulnerable.
